Elsy Wameyo: “Adelaide has the best artists in Australia”

20200129_ELSYWAMEYO_531

Part hip-hop and part soul, emerging Kenyan powerhouse and singing extraordinaire Elsy Wameyo brings an unrivalled energy to the stage. We spoke to Elsy ahead of her Foyer Friday show with Ollie English about why she loves Adelaide’s music scene.

Describe your music in three words.

Soulful, inspiring and energetic.

How did you come to where you are today? Was music always on the cards for you?

My footprint I believe was already established [Proverbs 16:9]. Yes, music was the one thing I always loved as a young girl and love even more till this day.

What is your favourite musical memory?

I wouldn't say it was my favourite, but I really enjoyed playing at Summer Sounds Festival last year. The way it all happened was just magical!

What influences your music?

The many conversations I have with people and my walk in life. The things I come across (documentaries, books, places ANYTHING).

What do you love about the music scene in Adelaide?

We're home to the best artists in the Australia.

What can we expect from your Foyer Fridays set? Will you be debuting any new music?

ENERGY! You'll just have to be there to find out.

What are you most excited about your upcoming gig at Woodville Town Hall?

I'm excited to perform. I haven't been on stage for a very long time so I just want to enjoy it.

Ollie English and Elsy Wameyo play Friday 19th November at the Foyer Fridays Main Hall Sessions. Bar starts at 5pm, music starts at 7pm.
